Last Thursday I got the wonderful opportunity to go to a memorial of a friend I knew thirty years ago. He was ninety three years old and I understand that he had dementia at the end of his life. When I last saw him he was in his sixties and very active in his retirement. When he was a part of my life, that is the person I knew. When we were at the Memorial Service there were so many people telling about how he had impacted their lives. This had to be enlightening to those that were with him during the last years of his life. A memorial lets those that are still here have the opportunity to remember "SHORTY" the quiet man that had so much impact on so many of us.
Shorty invested in those around him with Wisdom, Patience, Strength and his ability to lead by example of a Godly Man. His investments payed off big time in his offspring and those that had the privilege to be part of his life. His life testimony must have had a lot of impact by the way his Children, Grandchildren and their families are working in so many different ways to spread the Good News.
I've written in the past how important it is to document our loved ones life. I still believe this is important, but the best proof of how well we invested is how those that we have had contact with grow because of our example. It has been really hard to watch Diane go through this part of her life. I understand how hard it would be for some people to come around during this time. But, as much as I hate this situation for her and our family you can still see good things that have changed because of her. I've been reminded of what a beautiful smile she has, and there are still times when she speaks with great wisdom at the most appropriate times. We have all been reminded how God can use any vessel no matter how flawed.
UPDATE: We were officially approved for my Respite up to 132 hrs a month. And Senior Services approved a much better situation than I was expecting. The lady we have been talking to about doing some of Diane care came over and stayed with Diane while I went to the memorial. That was so cool .
