Good morning to all my rain soaked friends and reluctantly to those that are soaking in the Sunshine this week. Jacob and I took some time and went to the coast and hung out with my bothers, did some clam digging and even trapped some crabs. It was a little different not having Diane with us, but I think it was good for both Jacob and myself to concentrate on each other. Jacob really liked the idea that he got to sit in the passenger seat. He still reminds me every so often during the day as he points to the sky "Mommy in Heaven " . "Yes! Jacob Mommy is in Heaven and it's you and I.
When I first started this blog I wanted everybody to know that i am not an expert, but have formed opinion's while watching Diane and being a Caregiver myself. I noticed that after being healthy while being a Caregiver, they seem to have a lot of Health and Mental problems after their time as the one who was responsible for care is over. I was very open about the need for our responsibility to keep ourselves healthy. It is also easy to let ourselves get into this comfortable and noble bubble that no one can question. We have to admit that there is a certain amount of security in knowing what we need to do twenty four hours a day. Mothers can be guilty of this also, and it can really hurt relations within the family. When we receive the freedom from these duties that has bound us for so long, it can be a little scary. There will be those around you with good intentions that have all kinds of suggestions to help you fly. I guess this is a lot better than an enabler, but we all have to realize this is a process.
Professional Caregivers are able to leave their emotions at the job, those of us that are taking care of love ones don't have that luxury . It is my responsibility to those that are left behind to make up for lost time. I'm looking forward to helping Jacob with his communication skills. He has so much to say and deserves the ability to convey it. Jacob and I have lots of room for present and future love ones.
