Even though Diane really enjoys being with family and seems to do her best when we are visiting them. Everybody goes out of their way to show her love. Her sense of humor is appreciated by everybody. This can also be a very confusing time for her.
With all the things we are doing getting ready to leave, she can also feel a certain amount of anxiety coming from those around her. We have to be really understanding knowing she needs a lot of reassurance with all the commotion. Just because we are in a hurry doesn't mean she needs to be aware of it. We will plan on making things as relaxing as we possibly can.
There are a couple changes I've really noticed in the progression of her Disease .
1. During the early stages of Alzheimer's she was pretty coy in covering up her affliction. Now she doesn't seem to be embarrassed by what is going on. Now, its those around her that are trying to protect her from indignities . This does give her Freedom to take part in social situations.
2. With the progress of the disease combined with numbness in her fingers, it's becoming much more difficult for her to feed herself. I have been trying to make things a lot simpler for her to manage while eating. I have been feeding her more and more lately, and she doesn't seem to object as much lately.
