Around seven am this morning I started our daily routine of preparing Diane for her day. Jacob and I had breakfast earlier and he loves it when I come in and prepare something special. It's so rewarding to have someone so thankful for what you do for them . There is a huge lesson to be learned here, when what you mostly hear are demands and what you are expected to give. "Jacob ! a lot could be learned from you.
Sorry! I got carried away on my little life lesson. What was brought home to me this morning while getting Diane ready is she's to the point of complete dependency and doesn't really care. Most of her time is spent sleeping and mostly unresponsive. When you do offer her food or drink it is in small portions and flavors don't seem to motivate her. One thing she does love is when I give her a Back and Neck massage. She is free with the Oh's and Ah's and this motivates me to do this longer and more often. ( "See ! we love to give to a thankful person" ) I know, this is shallow.
I have to take time and think really hard back to when she was bringing us all into the Holiday Spirit. She would be baking cookies, making fudge, decorating the tree. It was brought up that when we were in our house in Warrenton she started hand painting Christmas Scenes on our front Bay Window, and it really was pretty good. During Easter she sent baskets to the Kids even after they were grown, and I was made to hide eggs after the boys went to bed. When Halloween came around she loved to dress up in some really wild costumes. Diane wasn't into sending Christmas Cards, but it was important for her to send cards to her loved ones on their special days. I also received constant hints and reminders to check on my Mom or anybody else she was concerned about.
Diane, we need your "Holiday Spirit" this year. It's down to Jacob being the motivator and he's a determined instigator. We are hoping during this Season you can feel a little bit about what this all means.
